Sustainability is a societal theme that is becoming increasingly important. Since the end of the 80's we humans have been using more energy and space per year than the earth can actually provide1. Addressing this critical issue requires a forward-thinking vision in which solid, innovative solutions can be developed. Intensive cooperation with industry and government is necessary.
The UT wants to become an advanced innovative university that creates work from knowledge. Thinking involves looking ahead. Sustainability is then an ideal opportunity for the UT to profile itself.
If the UT seriously wants to work towards sustainability, it is important to make its campus and energy flows sustainable. The advent of the Kennispark Twente is then the ideal opportunity for the UT to move towards sustainability. The use of UT's own innovative knowledge and its deep respect for its unique green campus would then provide our society with a concrete example of a sustainable community.
Mission statement:
The UTduurzaam Working Group wishes to contribute constructively to a stronger movement towards sustainability at the University of Twente, so that the use of innovative solutions can make a substantial contribution to the larger societal issues of energy provision and liveability on our planet.
UTduurzaam would like to be proud of its university and sees it as a missed opportunity if the University of Twente does not work more towards sustainability.
